FAQ
What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are natural substances made up of long chains of nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA and RNA, these molecules carry genetic information in our bodies which can help repair and rejuvenate your skin.
Polynucleotides are increasingly used in skincare treatments, especially for improving skin health and reducing signs of aging. When applied to the skin, they can help repair damaged cells, improve hydration, and support the skin's natural healing process. This can lead to smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.
Benefits
-
Skin Repair and Regeneration: Polynucleotides promote the repair of damaged skin cells and stimulate the regeneration of new cells. This helps improve the overall health and appearance of the skin.
-
Enhanced Hydration: These molecules attract and retain moisture in the skin, leading to better hydration. Well-hydrated skin appears plumper, smoother, and more radiant.
-
Anti-Ageing Effects: By promoting cell renewal and collagen production, polynucleotides help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leading to firmer and more youthful-looking skin.
-
Improved Skin Elasticity: Polynucleotides support the production of elastin, a protein that gives skin its elasticity. This helps maintain a firm and supple skin texture.
-
Reduction of Scarring: They can also aid in the healing of scars by promoting healthy tissue formation, making them a good option for those dealing with acne scars or other skin imperfections.
-
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Polynucleotides have anti-inflammatory effects, which can help soothe irritated or sensitive skin, making them suitable for various skin types, including those prone to redness or inflammation.
-
Safe and Natural: As naturally occurring molecules in the body, polynucleotides are generally well-tolerated and safe, with a low risk of allergic reactions or side effects.
Schedule of Treatment
A course of 3 treatments, spread 4 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.
Limitations
The polynucleotide product used in clinic is Vitaran. Vitaran contains trout DNA and therefore this treatment is unsuitable for those with fish allergies.
What to Expect
Polynucleotides may be administered by microneedling or by mesotherapy, depending on the treatment goals.
Microneedling – using a device with fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, which leads to increased production of collagen and elastin
Mesotherapy – small injections into the skin, resulting in blebs of product that will diffuse into the tissues, stimulating collagen and elastin.
